The Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP is designed to keep your system cool, no matter how hard you work it. The top and front are made of a metal mesh to facilitate airflow. Three 120mm fans are installed at the factory, in the front, rear and side. There is room for four more, two on the top, and one each on the bottom and side. You can also add an 80mm fan to the back of the motherboard tray to cool the CPU from both sides.

Each of the five external bays has the same mesh cover and the 5.25" to 3.5" adapter is also. All of the bays have a tool-less design for easy installation. The removable hard drive racks are also tool-less and come with anti-vibration pads for decreased noise. Each of the expansion slots has its own lockdown lever to eliminate screws. Cable routing clips minimize clutter and increase airflow.

To keep the case’s design lines pure the two USB, one FireWire, one eSATA and two audio ports have been put on the top of the case. This also makes them easier to access if the case is beside your desk. The power and reset buttons have been mounted on the side of the front bezel for the same reason.

  • newegg Superior Expandability with 10 Drive Bays Boasting five external 5.25" drive bays and five internal 3.5" drive bays, the Cooler Master CM 690 provides superior expandability. With the included 5.25"-to-3.5" converter, easily mount an external 3.5" device on the chassis.
  • newegg Excellent Cooling System The Cooler Master CM 690 features three 120mm fans (front, rear and side), as well as front and top mesh panels for maximum airflow and enhanced heat dissipation. The chassis also supports mounting of three additional 120mm fans for the ultimate cooling performance.
  • newegg Tool Free Installation The tool-free design ensures quick installation or upgrade for expansion cards, 5.25" and 3.5" devices, so you can save the time spent on setting up and start enjoying computing as soon as possible.
  • newegg Convenient Top I/O Panel The Cooler Master CM 690 features a convenient top I/O panel for easy access to two USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394a port, one eSATA port and two audio ports.
  • newegg NVIDIA SLI Ready The NVIDIA SLI-ready Cooler Master CM 690 provides sufficient interior space and effective cooling for building up a high-performance dual graphics card system.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to access, keeps things cool, looks sweet, and just makes things easy. Power button and reset button on case with blue and red indicator lights look good and are well placed. The included fans run silent and the inside of the case is very well organized with extra screws to assist you installing hardware. Overall, this is a really amazing case that I plan to keep using until it really isn't feasible.

Cons: It gets a little dustier than I'd like inside the case. I've cleaned the thing out a few times, but it just grabs dust and those fans and opening get filthy. Main concern with this is the graphics card I had initially got it's fan cake with dust as has the CPU fan and heat sink. If it was a little cleaner running, I'd have no complaints at all and this would get 5 eggs hands down.

Other Thoughts: Fantastic case. Just take precaution to prevent the dust.

5 out of 5 eggsThe right case

Pros: I have owened this case for about 7 years and It still works as it should. All the fans that came with the cas still work and it still keeps my PC cool. I have put together 2 gaming PC's using this same case over the 7 years I have had this case. I'm looking to do a 3rd gaming build and I'm thinking about getting another case but I don't think I can bring my self to get rid of this case.

Cons: the LED on the front fan is no longer as bright as is used to be but I really don't care about that. I mean come on it is almost 7 years old and that's the only thing I have that is somewhat, remotely, kind of, maybe bad.

5 out of 5 eggsOff The Chain Case

Pros: case has all the features I wanted and then some.
1) 5-5.25" bays. This allows me to install a 4 bay 3.5" SATA back plane. This takes up 3 bays. A BD/DVD/CD burner. takes up a bay. and a floppy or other 3.5" device, like the 3.5" USB 3.0 kits a lot of the mobo manufacturers are shipping with their mobos now. Takes up the last bay.
2) Tool less design.
3) Power supply in the bottom
4) Lots of opportunities for fans. 5-140mm fans and 2- 120mm fans!
5) Lots of internal 3.5" bays. Each of the internal 3.5" bays has a special tray that can be removed. You then install the hard drive in the tray and slide the tray back into the slot.
6) You can store all of the screws inside the case by screwing them into threaded holes located on the 5.25" bays. Also very nice!

Cons: None What So Ever

Other Thoughts: This is my favorite case of all time. I wish I could still buy this case. Cooler Master has manufacturer an updated version of this case, the COOLER MASTER RC-692A-KKN5 Black Steel body / Plastic + Mesh bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case which is close to the original. I really didn't see anyway to make this case better..but i was mistaken.

4 out of 5 eggsGIANT

Pros: Lots of room. A small family could live inside this thing.
Easy tool-less install for motherboard

Cons: Weighs a ton. This is NOT a LAN Party rig by any means.
Does not handle dust well.
Side panels are not easy to slide back on the unit.
Side fan panel is cumbersome.
Power button LED was way too bright.

Other Thoughts: I have learned my lesson and will definately pay closer attention to case dimensions, and weight in the future. While this is a great enthusiast case, it was way more than I needed, and made traveling to LAN parties with my PC a nightmare.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Sturdy Case

Pros: Great quality construction, thick steel that isnt flimsy. Lots of fan mounting options, good placement of front inputs/outputs. Nice and spaceous. The tool-less features are nice and work well unlike a lot of other cased ive used.

Cons: It seems over time that my case door has irreparably warped and ive still yet to figure out the reason. A few small rust spots of which i cant figure out the cause, maybe its the humidity. Cable management is a little tough going. The power and reset buttons feel a little cheap and im not a fan of the shine, minor gripe there.

Other Thoughts: Included fans were quiet but did not push much air, nothing bad really and no reason to knock of any points. Accidentally knocked a glass of water off my desk and it poured down into the top exhaust ports, fried a few of my components. Not going to list that under cons because it was my own stupid fault, just something to look out for.

All in all a great case for the money, its built like a tank.

4 out of 5 eggsDurable!

Pros: Awesome case, great screwless system and storage for mobo screws and other screws that you have to use for PSU, fan, etc. Also, PLENTY of fan spots to keep your case very cool.

Cons: A couple things.
1. Cable management couldve been much better, I did'nt really like the idea of all my cables being routed down one center section, especially if you have to get at one thats at the back of all those cables. Also, impeeding airflow.
2. Do NOT over-tighten the motherboard standoffs... I put one extra turn on one just to get it snug and it stripped the hole. I ended up using some super glue to get it to stay in place so it's alright, but make sure not to over tighten those.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but nothing fantastic

Pros: Tower works great. Its sturdy and can take a beating. Still using it 3 yrs later. Lots of spots for fans. Most of the tower is made of metal that air can easily travel through (and liquids so be careful)

Cons: I'm not sure if this is the towers fault or not, but I get shocked every once in awhile when I touch it in a couple spots (and no where else). I've reseated my mobo multiple times and nothing changed.

Honestly, it's pretty boring looking. Should have spent a little more money for something more visually appealing.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Joe Keller,

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the case. Please check if the i/o panel is properly grounded. I would also test the system in another case to see if it has the same effect. If the i/o panel is found to be defective, you can replace it if the case is still under warranty.
You can contact us on live chat if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
CMUSA Customer Support

Cons: I can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: This is my favorite case of all time. I wish I could still buy this case. Hopefully Cooler Master will manufacturer an updated version of this case, or the exact same case, in the future. I really don't see anyway to make this case better for my needs.

5 out of 5 eggsLasts forever

Pros: Tough as nails, roomy, good cable management, easy to install hard drives and cards.
Bottom Power Supply mounting so it's not tipsy.
Lots of room to get your hands in to tweak your installation around without having to disassemble everything.

Cons: Power and reset switches could be less "tricked out". Just give me plain old buttons already.

Other Thoughts: I've had this thing five years. It won't die! 3 builds through it. Never have had any of the blackscreen by touch issues others have mentioned. This thing is solid. I got tired of all the "flexy" cases I used in previous years that threatened to collapse on themselves if you left a side panel off. This thing is just rock solid, and I assume so are its successors.
