1 out of 5 eggsAn extender that does not work

Pros: None, unit does not work.

Cons: Will not work at all. Attached it to a USB CCD camera and the copmuter failed to recognize that anything was attached. Using a specified power supply made no difference. Complete waste of $.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good for me

Pros: It's small. It worked great with a Philips webcam and power to the endpoint, and a 10 foot Ethernet cable.

Cons: 1) No power supply provided for the endpoint. Really! The darn thing won't work without it, why isn't one supplied with the product? I had to scavenge for one in my parts box.

2) Couldn't make it work with just a single USB-to-serial adapter as the device at the (powered) endpoint. Deal breaker.

3) Couldn't make it work with a USB hub at the endpoint. The endpoint was powered, the hub was powered. Perhaps it would work with some other hub, but I don't have a half a dozen hubs to try out. I really need to attach multiple devices, so this was a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: 1) It might work for you in some situations. If you're desperate for a 200 ft. connection, give it a try. Otherwise, there are some high quality 32-foot repeaters that work great for me, stacked to 96 feet. And they support USB 2.0! (offered by NewEgg)

2) All my testing was with a 10 foot Ethernet cable. No idea if it would work for the max length.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience.
The GUCE51 will work without a pier adapter if it is connected correctly to the PC

4 out of 5 eggsDon't use with USB hub

Pros: Cost, ease of use. Works well with a keyboard or mouse.

Cons: Won't work reliably with USB hub, power is optional but doesn't come with power cord.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to try and extend a mouse and keyboard over ethernet. Works solid with a 1-1 connection, even without power.

I tried using with a Belkin USB Plus Hub, both with and without power to the IOGear extender with the same result- interruptions in use of the mouse. This is still a LOT cheaper than a commercial grade powered hub extender.

4 out of 5 eggsDo as described

Pros: -The price is respectable
-Detection by windows 7 was no big deal
-Did a PC-USBHUB-GUCE51-USBHUB-Barcode scanner connection with good result
-Quite small

Cons: The brand of the hub you connect after this device will determine if it works or not. I had two different hub at work and only one of the two worked correctly.

You dont seem to be able to use two of these unit in a connection (like PC-GUCE51-USBHUB-GUCE51-Device) which would have been fantastic.

Other Thoughts: If you need to connect a power supply to it you can always look for the SONY PSP handheld device power supply (be carefull to take the 5V and 2000ma model as the other model wont supply enought current). You can find it for around 15$ in big retail store.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, when supplying 5VDC...

Pros: We performed a detailed test of this product using a 60-ft Cat5e (200 MHz) cable:

* Computer -> USB Extender -> USB Mouse/Keyboard/Stick = Did not work.
* Computer -> USB Extender -> USB Hub (monitor) -> USB Mouse/Keyboard/Stick = Sporadic behavior for the mouse/keyboard; USB hard drive did not work at all.
* Computer -> USB Hub (monitor) -> USB Extender -> USB Mouse/Keyboard/Stick = Mouse and keyboard worked flawlessly, USB hard drive did not work.

Then we connected a 5VDC power source to the receiver, and every configuration worked without problems. We even connected a powered hub on the receiving side: no problems for mouse/keyboard/stick all plugged into the hub and running at the same time.

Cons: Does not work well over long distances with no power supplied to receiving end.

Other Thoughts: IOGEAR should include an AC adapter with this product, even if it raises the price a little.

4 out of 5 eggsThis plus a hub causes problems.

Pros: Works like a charm. Hardest part of using this was running my Cat5 cable.

Cons: Kept getting random disconnects when using with a hub. No disconnect problems when using without a hub. Tried 3 different brand hubs, powered and unpowered and still had the random disconnects.

Other Thoughts: If you need more than one port at the end, you're better off going with an extender with a built in hub. And those are more expensive.

5 out of 5 eggsExtend USB

Pros: Works great without any loss in the USB device.

Cons: I would love to see this item in USB 2.0, but for what I am using it for it's not necessary.

Other Thoughts: I am using this for a Sprint Wireless Broadband U720 USB device, which is sitting in my upstairs window.
Through this device I extended it to my downstairs PC and connected without problems 175' feet away. Far exceeding a USB 16’ foot limit.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It will extend anything USB beyond that 16ft max...

Cons: It does not come with a power supply which stinks because the one that is needed costs arouns $30 at Radio Shack. The cost...

Other Thoughts: If you need something that will extend a usb cord, this is it but be prepared to pay $...
