3 out of 5 eggsGood hardware, shoddy drivers

Pros: Low profile card, comes with full and half length brackets.

Molex power connector for additional power, comes with SATA/Molex adapter.

Fairly good performance, seems to work without bottlenecking my USB 3 hard drive. I cannot give detailed numbers on performance as I don't have anything that works nearly as fast as USB 3 is rated for.

Cons: SATA/Molex connector seems to be pretty low build quality. Part of the adapter's SATA connector broke off when removing it from my power supply's power output, at which point I just ran one of my power supply's Molex connectors.

The drivers used for this VIA chipset are pretty shoddy: When inserting a USB device, or when shutting down the system, sometimes the machine will blue screen, which doesn't happen with my motherboard's onboard USB. If you have Windows 8 or later, or if you use Linux, I would recommend this device as those operating systems do not require third-party drivers for USB 3 support, and this USB card works just fine for those operating systems.

For Windows 7 or earlier, I would absolutely avoid using this card as you must install their shoddy drivers for it to work.

Other Thoughts: The card came with white fingerprints all over the top side of it. Really?

5 out of 5 eggsGet USB 3.0 two ways in older computers

Pros: Installs easily with provided mini-CD Works no problem with Windows 7. Just go get a cup of coffee while it installs. Provides both two backpanel USB ports and a standard 19 pin header for connection to maybe a front panel card reader/USB port (2.0 or 3.0). Fits in a PCI-express slot and includes a backplate for use in a low profile chassis.

Cons: Installation is very slow and doesn't act like it is working but it is.

Other Thoughts: I didn't test it's speed.

2 out of 5 eggsFrequent disconnections

Pros: When working, works fine.

Cons: The card had several issues since I got it and I think it may have finally crapped out. Devices connected to it apparently can draw power, but will not show up as connected. Multiple attempts to fix it yielded no results. Likely going to scrap it at this point.

Other Thoughts: The power connector is badly placed.

5 out of 5 eggsGood quality 3.0 outputs

Pros: This really appears to be high quality, I made some large file transfers to my 3.0 portable WD drive and was amazed at the transfer speed.
It also has output to go to front panel 3.0 usb's via a 19 pin cable (not supplied). It's downward compatible too.

Cons: Didn't find any cons.

Other Thoughts: My Coolermaster case (912) didn't have front 3.0 usb's so I added a 3.5" front panel with 2 ports and it really works well.
Raidmax and several others have these already mounted and you just need to add the card and attach the cable.

5 out of 5 eggsNice card, but...

Pros: works as described, comes with all you need to install in different configurations.

Cons: Although it will install as a low profile using included bracket for SFF type cases, the required power input is facing upward on the top of the card. This is counter intuitive to a low profile installation as the case cover won't fit with power cord sticking up. Unable to use on any of the 5 SFF Dell PCs I tried.

5 out of 5 eggsReview update

Pros: correction...
Please ignore the A/C adapter comment part of my review. I was referring to the TekRepublic USB 3.0 4-port HUB that is plugged to the HooToo card. It also comes with an A/C adapter. I inadvertently partly reviewed that product with HooToo together, here. My mistake and sorry for the confusion. Everything stands except the A/C comment...just ignore the A/C statement!!

Cons: see above

Other Thoughts: see above

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: This is a great product. I was able to install it in a Asus P6T mobo with very little effort. I'm averaging 115mg/sec...it was tested by transferring files from an eSATA device to a Seagate 3gb USB3 HD . It seems to work fine without the A/C adapter; hence, not using it. I have not experienced any issues thus far. It appears to have fixed my PC not going to sleep issue, manually only. Auto sleep still an issue. I have a USB 3.0 4-port HUB by TekRepublic attached to it for a total of 5 USB 3 Ports. This works well since my mobo only supports USB 2. I got both on special. This is a cool device. It makes my old, but still functional Intel i7 920, PC seem less ancient.

Cons: The only minor con is that I had somewhat a difficult time attaching a 4-pin molex to the HooToo card because the cables of my Corsair 750W PSU are very stiff, thus, not easy to move cables around inside the mid-tower case. And plus the 4-pin header location should be at the end (180 deg) instead on the side (90 deg). This would make it easier to connect the molex at least in my mobo.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if the A/C adapter is necessary. I'm not using it. I have a Corsair 750W PSU. This could be the reason.
