1 out of 5 eggsWorked for three weeks

Pros: The case color is black.

Cons: Died after less than three weeks of operation. Since it was purchased Thanksgiving weekend, the 30 day warranty period expired 3 days after it was opened on Christmas morning. Nothing but a white flash intermittently now, no picture, no sound.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste

Pros: The price

Cons: barely works and no HDMI cables

Other Thoughts: This was purchased at the end of October for a Christmas presents. We just got it hooked up a couple days ago and after 5 minutes of playing a movie its like the player is having a seizure. It plays static and then starts flashing green and white lights. Since newegg only has a 30 day return policy on defected items I can't return this. This was a total waste of money, now I get to turn around and spend even more money on something that will work and have a better warranty policy. Buyer beware!

4 out of 5 eggsBasic & functional

Pros: Can play arbitrary video/audio files from disc or USB in just about any format.
Handles 1080p h.264 / MKV video files without any problems
Recognizes and displays softsubs in MKV's
Youtube support, Youtube playback & playlist can be controlled from a mobile device
Remote control has universal/programmable buttons for TV power, TV input, and TV volume
Compact size
On-screen menus relatively self-documented in understandable, if a bit awkward, english.
Supports a few methods of video playback from a LAN fileserver, like Windows Media Player sharing and some Nero software

Cons: Took several tries to get it to join wireless network (but once joined it works fine)
Doesn't support exFAT formatted USB drives
Streaming video "apps" (Youtube Hulu Neflix et al) take a long time to initially load - 30+ seconds to get from main menu to picking a video
Lightweight remote control feels cheap and remote reception is noticeably directional
No comprehensive owners manual provided with device or available for download
Doesn't support Windows "homegroup" style filesharing (SMB/CIFS)

Other Thoughts: Shipped to me with outdated software - once connected to the internet I used the auto-updater to upgrade from v. BD7.893 to BD7.930. Software update was simple and easy, but is 100% manually triggered - it will never even look for a software update unless you go into the setup menu and manually tell it to.

Neither LG or the refurbisher seems to acknowledge the existence of this device. It is not even mentioned on their company web pages, including on the webpage printed on the "simple manual" included with the device. Attempting to download the full owners manual, following the directions on the cover of the "simple manual", will lead you to a drop down list on the website that does not include an option for this device.

I have been using the device mostly as a general purpose digital media player rather than a blu-ray player, mostly playing h.264 rips off of thumbdrives and burned DVDs. It's served very well in this role. I haven't explored the streaming features in depth because I don't have a Netflix or Hulu subscription, but what I've seen with smartphone/tablet control of the Youtube app, has been very slick and usable. I assume similar functionality is available in the Netflix app as well.

The lack of an ethernet port hasn't been an issue so far. Even though it took 3 tries (and 3 tedious password retypings) to get it to join my 802.11n wireless network, since joined it has kept a robust connection, and I have not seen a single network-related playback hiccup, despite the crowded 2.4ghz spectrum in my area.

3 out of 5 eggsBPM33 Blu-Ray Player

Pros: Plays very well from an external USB HDD. Easy physical setup. Small size.

Cons: Lousy user manual in pict-o-graph form.
No details on how to hook to your router. Its on-screen only and LG provides no manual online. I entered the codes multiple times b4 it finally connected. There is more than 1 way to connect but no info how. Non-browser scrolling menus. No timer function when paused .

Other Thoughts: No visual difference in xvids or mkv formats in usage. Might be the up convert or my old plasma though.
The BP330 manual will help you set it up on your network.
