Categories > Internal SSD > OCZ Technology > OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD3-2VTX240G 3.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Works perfectly so far
Pros: I migrated my old drive to this new one using a USB to SSD drive connector I got from Crucial a few months ago for my wife's laptop. It installed with no problem because I happened to have four short screws to use to mount it in the drive bay of my Dell T3400 Workstation. The drivers installed at power-up and the drive worked perfectly after restart.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: Fingers crossed

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Works fine in Macbook Pro
Pros: Affordable. Much faster than stock HDD.
Cons: Not sure how good life expectancy is, but not really a con.
Other Thoughts: I installed two of these in a Macbook 8,1 and a Macbook 7,1 and they work fine so far.

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 Never on this Product Version!
Pros: I did use this with no problem in almost 7 months.
Cons: Then suddenly BIOS did not detect this SSD,
I shipped back the SSD for$14+
OCZ sent a replacement BUT still not detected by the BIOS.
I search the net, seems this version has a problem.
My recommendation: DON'T EVER BUY THIS PRODUCT Version.

Categories > Internal SSD > SAMSUNG > SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD250KW 2.5" 250GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Extreme Speed w/ Some Sacrifice
Pros: Ridiculous speed!!!! Solid software via the web. Good Accessory Package!!! Nice packaging and good looking product (if that really matters)
Cons: Instructions and Software included. Download the latest migration tool and magician software. Not a 1Tb drive
Other Thoughts: Ok this thing is FAST!!!!!! As far as an upgrade from HDD to SSD there is no comparison, especially IF great care was NOT taken into consideration on how your HDD was managed. Programs really do BLINK when you open them. I mean literally blink. PC boots up FAST. I'm so use to the long boot-up from windows via HDD (about a minute) from the time i press the power button it feels like i left the PC in sleep state or hybrid / hibernate. Now its barely above 20 secs from pwr button.

But you have to be careful how your rig is set up For space I have always had my data connected via USB 3.0 external drive. That adds about 10 secs. MOST IMPORTANT. Make sure the USB Legacy is OFF/NOT ENABLED. With it on you boot-up times will be just as long as a HDD. I was never one for benchmark test cause we don't really use benchmarks for everyday productivity so i didn't waste time posting the numbers. But Adobe elements and Audacity loads a file so fast you wonder if the entire file was loaded.

Be sure to take your time and really clean your hard drive if you are not going to do a clean install. AHCI, defrag, purge old, temp and deleted files, etc. Use the Data Migration for cloning and Magician for basic optimization. These links were the most complete I found on the web.

The only real negative is the size. Space IS A PREMIUM. So whatever data intensive process you use be sure to move that file off. 256GB goes real fast.

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Be wary of this one
Pros: Good disk while it lasted
Cons: Died on me after 10 months.
Other Thoughts: Died on me about 2 weeks ago. I'm glad I work on an external disk, if I depended on this one I would have lost all my work in the past 8-10 months!

Categories > Internal SSD > Corsair > Corsair Neutron Series CSSD-N128GB3-BK 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 A good standard for SSD
Pros: The Neutron 3 (CSSD-N128GB3-BK) is Corsair’s second-in-line SSD in the 120-128 GB range, right behind the higher-end Neutron GTX (CSSD-N120GBGTXB-BK). The only difference between these two drives is the price and better max read/write speeds for the GTX. This review focuses on my experience with the Neutron 3 and compares it to other SSDs I’ve used.

This SSD utilizes a SATA III (6 Gb/s) connection and boasts maximum sequential read/write times of up to 540/211 MB/s, respectively. But what do these numbers really mean? If you’re still using an older hard disk drive (HDD), these numbers mean that it is time to upgrade. I’ve used 3 different SSDs in the past year, with the Neutron 3 being the newest, and it does indeed outperform the other drives (the OCZ Vertex 3 and OCZ Vertex 4). Running Windows 8 Pro x64, I was getting 14:80 second boot times with the Neutron 3, starting from when the Windows 8 logo appeared to when the system was actually usable. The Vertex 4’s fastest boot time was 22:38 seconds. Using a benchmarking tool, my actual sequential read/write times for the Neutron 3 were 493.95 MB/s read and 247.40 MB/s write. For the Vertex 4, my sequential times were 474.30 MB/s read and 247.89 MB/s write. The Neutron 3 outperforms the Vertex 4 in this test.

This drive has an actual usable space of 119.24 GB, which will be exactly the same as all 128 GB drives. The drive will requires virtually no set up, aside from mounting it in your case and plugging in the cables. It comes with a 2.5” to 3.5” bracket, so you will be able to fit the drive anywhere a standard HDD will fit. There is no need to worry about getting another bracket to make it fit in your case!

One of the easiest upgrades you can make is switching to an SSD. You will notice an immediate, pronounced difference on an SSD compared to a hard disk drive. The OS will boot lightning-quick, programs will open faster and be more responsive, and your PC will feel new again. The first time I booted my OS from an SSD, I was astounded by the speed at which it ran. An SSD can give new life to old hardware, at the sacrifice of total disk space.
Cons: The SSDs case seemed a bit “flimsy” to me as compared to the OCZ Vertex line. Not that this matters at all when considering the actual performance of the drive, but it definitely didn’t feel as sturdy as the Vertex line. I guess this would only matter if you planned on playing Frisbee with the drives, though. Another negative point is that the drive does not come with a SATA III cable in an effort to minimize packaging. None of the SSDs I’ve ever bought have come with a SATA cable, however, so this is just the industry standard. Just keep in mind that to maximize the performance of this drive that you will need both a SATA III cable and a motherboard with SATA III ports. I would have definitely given this review 5 eggs, had the drive come with a cable and sticker (I’m a sucker for case stickers).
Other Thoughts: At the time of writing, the Corsair Neutron 3 is the cheapest 128 GB SSD online. The quicker boot speed definitely makes this SSD stand out compared to others I’ve used, and the cheaper price seals the deal. Many of the pros listed above could be said about all SSDs, but this one does not disappoint and performs at the same level of drives that might be more expensive. This would be a great first or additional SSD for anyone looking to upgrade their computers.

I have both a desktop and laptop PC, with the testing done on my desktop for accurate comparison to the other drives. I fully intend to replace the 1 TB HDD in my laptop with the Neutron 3; the difference in speed compared to HDDs is so great that I’ll easily give up the extra space. I put all of my programs and install the OS on my SSDs, while I only use HDDs for storage of music/pictures/other items that don’t require fast read/write.

I used the AS SSD Benchmarking tool for the sequential read/write speeds.

My Specs: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ Motherboard / G.SKILL Sniper Series 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1333 / EVGA GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 Graphics Card / OCZ Vertex 4 SATA III 128 GB SSD / Corsair Neutron 3 SATA III 128 GB SSD

Categories > Internal SSD > SanDisk > SanDisk Ultra Plus SDSSDHP-256G-G25 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for Notebook

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Took a chance on Sandisk - not disappointed at all!
Pros: Supports all modern SATA, S.M.A.R.T., AHCI functions. Large capacity at a (relatively) low price for and SSD. Fast - yes not as fast as Samsung or some others, but do I care? Not a bit. Over 500MB read/425MB write. This is in a new build with an Intel B75 Chipset. Installing Intel Rapid Storage made a big difference in boot times, updating the firmware did as well. Updating the firmware with the SSD Toolbox from Sandisk was quick and easy as well. With an i5 3330, 8GB DDR3-1600, and this drive, I press the power button and get a desktop within 10 seconds. I can't say that about the RAID0 64GB Crucial M4s on an AMD 970 board that I was using previously. It's nice to have TRIM support as well in comparison to the old system. In fact, I have yet to find a single thing that this does not do better than that previous RAID setup. I'm happy with this purchase - let's hope reliability is one of the strengths of this drive as well!
Cons: N/A
Other Thoughts: If the price is right compared to other 2xxGB drives, don't hesitate to go for it!
