Categories > Processors - Servers > Intel > Intel Intel Xeon E3-1245V3 Haswell 3.4GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 95W Quad-Core Server Processor BX80646E31245V3

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Why buy the 4770 when you can buy this?
Pros: Cheaper than a 4770 with the addition of ECC support. Great price vs the 4770.

Extremely quiet and runs cooler than my old stock i7 920.
Cons: Turbo frequency is 100 MHz slower than the 4770, but you'd be hard pressed to notice

The cooling fan power cable was a bit tightly wound out of the box and the blades barely made contact making a buzzing noise on first power up.
Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a stock i7 920 and could not be happier!

I bought this processor because I do not overclock. I was considering the 4770 because I wanted VT-d, then I saw this one at a much lower price, and I was sold.

If you want to save even more money and will never use the 4600 IGP, look at the 1240v3. Same chip, but cheaper and uses a little less power.

Double check to make sure your motherboard supports this part. The Asrock z87 Extreme6 works just fine with this processor, but does not support ECC RAM.

This part actually has an 84 Watt TDP. Not sure why Newegg says it's 95W

2 of these beasts (16 cores you know...))) power up my workstation based on ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS
Processed ANY application with such ease, still can't get use to it...)))
Cons: NO.
Other Thoughts: Would be interesting to compare to E5-2687W...

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Great CPU
Pros: This is a great CPU a little less power usage then the V2's however performance is a little bit better.
Cons: Different Socket than the V1 and V2's which means it doesn't work with the 500+ V2's that we have in use right now
Other Thoughts: Great all around product.

Pros: Excellent Performance
Can pair together for dual CPU's
32 Threads (2x 2670)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Two of these processors together provide great performance using 3DS Max with Mentay ray and also video editing in Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Our render times are down from 1.5-2hours to as low as 10minutes!

Categories > Processors - Servers > Intel > Intel Xeon X5690 Westmere-EP 3.46GHz 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Server Processor BX80614X5690

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 12C/24T of Awesome-Sauce
Pros: Seriously, do I even need to list them? I do? Okay....

- 6 Cores / 12 Threads of Serious Compute Power per CPU
- Very high stock clock speed
- OVERCLOCKABLE XEON via BCLK overclocking!!!
- Gets about 2.9x as many PPD in Folding@Home as my 3930K @ 5.1Ghz does!
- Huge amounts of on-die cache

I have two of these in an EVGA SR-2 board, which supports 2x LGA1366 Xeon CPU's, 12x DDR3 DIMM's, 8x SATA drives, and has 7x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots (although will not all run at full speed).

I have my setup, which is used for HWBot overclocking/benchmarking competitions, Folding@Home, and video rendering, consisting of:
- SR-2
- 2x Xeon X5690 Overclocked to 4.62Ghz
- 48GB DDR3-1798 6-8-7-21
- 4x EVGA GTX580 Classified Ultra 3GB GPU's in SLI (OC'd to 1044core/4794mem)
- 2x Intel X25-E SLC-NAND 180GB SSD's in RAID0
- 3x Western Digital RE4 2TB HDD's in RAID0
- 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB HDD's in RAID1
- CaseLabs Magnum TH10 Case with Extended Top and Pedestal
- Full CPU, GPU, and Motherboard Liquid Cooling (2x Watercool MO-RA3 Pro 1260 rads w 18x Bgears Blasters 140mm fans Push-Pull on each, 4x Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 560 rads with 140mm Bgears Push-Pull, 4x MCP35X Pumps, etc)
Cons: - Price
- Limited to BCLK for overclocking
- Can be very finicky with RAM
Other Thoughts: Absolutely awesome! There is no real downside, not if you're doing rendering, heavy photo/video editing, distributed computing, or competitive CPU benchmarking!

Looking forward to see what the Ivy Bridge-E Xeon CPU's have in store; I'm hoping they won't make the mistake of locking them down like the SNB-EP Xeon's are....

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Amazing value
Pros: Xeons are binned to run at lower voltages and lower power usage. - 69W watts? not even close, taking some reasonable guesses about the other parts and looks like this CPU actually tops out at about 47 watts or so.... Want to see how far I can undervolt and still be stable :)

I7 performance at an i5 price

Not paying for integrated graphics you wont use anyway.
Cons: Cant thing of a single bad thing to say.
Other Thoughts: Part of my killer HTPC build

Quad Core / 8 thread plus a Radeon 7750 graphics card all living happily with a 150 watt power supply!

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Fantastic
Pros: *Fantastic speeds
*Barely makes an effort to run anything
*Nice temperature
*Practically an i7 for i5 price
Cons: *The stock cooler is awful, but Intel makes awful stock coolers and always has, I hate the thing. Does it's job, but actually putting the thing on is just a pain -- and I can't tell when the thing is actually snapped in
*Locked clock speed
Other Thoughts: Within the past 3-4 years, I've upgraded my PC more times than I can remember. Initially, I was going to make another AMD build (I had the FX-4100, and was going to get the FX-6300). After much thought, I decided to switch back to Intel and give them a try. At first, I was going to go with the i5-3750k, but decided why not pay a tad more for the i7-3770k -- then I stumbled upon this. The Xeon E3-1230 V2 is a hidden gem when it comes to Intel CPUs. It's compatible with my Z77 chipset keyboard, and does what a CPU is supposed to. Being a gamer, it was amazing to see just how badly my CPU was holding me back. Using my FX-4100 and GTX 480, I was getting 20-30 FPS in Natural Selection 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic -- but when I switched to this CPU, my frames boosted to the point where it never drops below 60. This CPU absolutely destroys virtually anything you throw at it and more for such a great price, and it saves you electricity in comparison to practically any AMD or Intel mainstream CPUs.

In short -- do your research. This CPU is a hidden gem and the price is more than worth it for the performance you get back from it, and the energy you save using it.

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Go for the 1230
Pros: Yes this is a fast chip with vt-d and support for normal or ecc memory.
Cons: One egg dropped for value due to lack of hyperthreading as the 1230 has.
Other Thoughts: This chip and the 1225 is overpriced by about 20 dollars in the IVY B lineup.
