ASUS F55U-NH21 Notebook AMD Dual-Core Processor E2-1800(1.7GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW AMD Radeon HD 7340

Great Deal
- Pros: This laptop is fast and it was a great deal. For $300 you get ATI video and a 320 gb hdd.
- Cons: Windows 8 is a problem, of course, but that is not Asus' fault. Win 8 is really a blessing for pc techs like me. My business has skyrocketed because people do not want to buy new pc's. They would rather overpay me for repairs because they hate Win 8 so much.

ASUS X53E-RS52 Notebook Intel Core i5 2450M(2.50GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DL DVD+/-RW/CD-RW Intel HD Graphics 3000

Great Computer
- Pros: Speed. Memory. Ram. Media Powerhouse. Price.
- Cons: Not really many here. Battery life appears a bit short, but that can easily be solved by switching from entertainment mode to battery save mode. The keyboard can be occasionally spotty, but it also isn't a huge problem. Took a long time to get here, but since I ordered it over Memorial day weekend, that was my bad.
- Other Thoughts: This computer is quick and snappy. It multitasks very well, and definitely is a media powerhouse. It can multitask without so much as a hiccup with several tabs of chrome open, itunes open- and playing, and photoshop CS5 running. It can also do mild gaming, which is nice. Older games run no problem, and MMOs run decently on low-medium settings. The Old Republic can be played with high character detail, low texturing on the environment and high detail textures. Torchlight II and Sins of a Solar Empire run like butter on max settings. Overall this is a great laptop, and I suggest you buy it. The other reviews simply point to refurbishing issues, and they don't always happen. Mine is refurbished and runs like a charm.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 (59359559) Notebook Intel Core i7 3630QM(2.40GHz) 15.6" 16GB Memory DDR3 1600 16GB SSD 1TB HDD 5400rpm Dual NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M SLI

Great bang for your buck
- Pros: Screen size and quality - I know it is a TN panel, but I swear it looks like an IPS (except for the viewing angles).
i7 3630QM - This processor does better in some benchmarks than the massive two-year-old quad-core I have in my desktop!
Dual GT650M - best deal for mobile graphics I have ever seen.
Keyboard - very high quality. There are 3 brightness levels (off, low, high) for the red backlight. Keystrokes are short and feel very crisp and natural. Good for both gaming and fast typing.
12GB RAM - Seriously, what am I going to do with all that RAM?
Speakers - very good for a laptop.
Cooling - also very good for a laptop. This laptop produces much more heat than most (as you would expect, with a quad-core processor and two graphics cards), but it also cools much more effectively than most. Intake is on the bottom face and exhaust is on both right and left. The most strenuous stress tests I ran could not get any components to hotter than 77C (with ambient temperature about 20C). - Cons: Windows 8 - enough said. I am still considering just installing Windows 7 instead...
Trackpad - horrible. Frequently does not sense 1 finger vs. 2 fingers; crazy out-of-control scrolling sensitivity; hard to click without causing the cursor to move. Very annoying. Use a mouse.
Headphone jack is on the close right corner. This can interfere with the mouse. I was playing Far Cry 3 and trying to sneak, when my mouse button hit up against my headphone jack and caused my gun to fire, giving away my position.
Casing - feels flimsy. Just be careful with it...
Caching SSD - not nearly as good as a normal SSD. Benchmarks were only slightly better than a traditional HDD.
Charger - massive. This is not really that much of a con, but I just did not expect it to be this big. It is also heavy to carry around.
No DVD drive - Also not that much of a con. I have only needed to use it once, and I just used an external DVD drive. This is not a make-or-break feature, as DVDs are being phased out for other digital media.
- Other Thoughts: Just before I bought this, I was planning on buying the lower-priced version of this same laptop (without caching SSD with 6GB RAM, and with a dual-core i5). When I saw this on sale for just 100 bucks more, I decided to go for it.
Here are a few more things that have caught my attention:
The battery really does last 3+ hours, so long as you are not gaming.
Not having a DVD drive is not a big deal.
Everything else is just as it says in the product description. Overall, I would recommend this computer to anyone looking for affordable performance.

ASUS G74 Series G74SX-BBK11 Notebook Intel Core i7 2670QM(2.20GHz) 17.3" 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M

Good Quality, Tough
- Pros: Really fast, worked great with games like Battlefield 3, Crysis 2. Mid-Low Settings, and High Settings Crysis 2.
I have to say I am really impressed with this laptop I suggest this to anyone who is just gaming. It is outdated, as this is a late review - Cons: Some problem's Probably minor
Some Blue Screens, seems to happen when I start it without the charger plugged in.
Did handle games like I wanted too
Bad Hardrive speed
- Other Thoughts: No reason to buy this anymore, outdated.
Bought at the wrong time.

ThinkPad T410 (2522EC8) Notebook Intel Core i5 520M(2.40GHz) 14.1" 8GB Memory 160GB SSD CDRW/DVDRW Intel GMA 5700MHD

Solid Performer
- Pros: Windows 7 Pro
8 GB RAM 160 GB SSD Core i5 CPU - Cons: A little pricey for a used machine.
- Other Thoughts: This is my first refurb purchase, and I'm pretty happy with it. Machine is obviously used, but it's clean. Everything works as advertised, as far as I can tell. I went ahead and purchased the 1-yr extended warranty, just to be on the safe side.

ASUS G Series G53JW-A1 NoteBook Intel Core i7 740QM(1.73GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 1333 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

You tell if it is worth it
- Pros: powerful
fast good gpu at the time cheap when i bought it (1150 $ CA) backlit keyboard HD screen mat black, no flashy light newegg fast shipping and service, as usual - Cons: power connector pin broke after 1 month
hdd stopped working after 4 months camera stopped working after 6 months flash card reader worked on and off (until i found a real good driver for it: (6.2.8400.28124) that is not on asus site) computer started crashing (gpu) while gaming after 2 years more a desktop replacement laptop (heavy, bulky) connection on the right side (where the mouse goes) more a portable desktop than a laptop (heavy, bulky) really bad sound, cannot be use as a good music player. I always use headphones if good audio is needed.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop because i had a good price (1150$ca) and i knew that i was able to take care myself of the majority of known issues (power connector, hdd, ...)
I make this review just in case someone without expertise who is willing to purchase a reliable device would be informed. It is not a reliable laptop. Here is what i have done on it from day one, which is about 2 years ago. I had to dissasembled the laptop many many times... for:
To solder a new AC DC jack to the mobo, which is solid and has not broken since. To replace HDD for SSD, which is pretty simple... To check the camera connection, which i found out was a mobo issue. To repaste the GPU and CPU so it would not crash no more. To add RAM. Most of the slot or easy to access, except for one which underneath the mobo. To clean the fans from dust, since you cannot do it the good way from the outside. I also bought a 90 degree connector so the cable would not be in the way no more. AND not to mention all the time I have spent to find out solutions for these issues (going trough all kind of drivers, clean install of the system, programs, BIOS...)
Yes i know, it is warranty for one year, and i could have it replaced or repaired... to get another one with same issues? How long without it?... I felt more comfortable by doing it myself and fixing the issues for good.
Now, I would say that I have a reliable setup, and it is very fast and powerful. (2 SSD, 12gb ram) But for how long? Will I have to change the MOBO soon? who knows.... If i was buying such a laptop today, I would go for something else to save the hassle.
Hope my review will help someone.

Frame Shuttering.....
- Pros: Bargain price for the hardware
love the design/polished aluminum fingerprint issue not a big deal with a microfiber cloth. - Cons: Had to RMA it due to fan issues the first time. Now on my second and I am experiencing severe screen tearing and shuttering. If you do your research on this product, you will see that it has been a consistent issue for months now. I had read that the most recent driver update for the sli cards should fix it so i made the purchase, but i am still having the same problems. The problem has something to do with vsync and the refresh rate of the screen being rounded down to 59 fps by windows and up to 60 by nvidia. I am checking a few more forums to see if i can get this straightened out, but I am very displeased with the amount of effort it is taking me to get games that are not graphically taxing to run at any setting on this machine that should be able to play them at high/ultra.
